The application allows you to create bootable drives with installation files for Windows Vista, Win 7, Win 8 or Win 8.1, as well as various Server editions, but you can also create bootable drives with a Windows Preinstallation Environment. WinToUSB can write the data on a USB external hard drive or on a simple USB flash drive, if it has enough storage space. Once your initial selections are complete, you may proceed to the next step and select a destination. After selecting a disc in a drop menu or targeting an ISO image on a standard Open dialog, you can choose what operating system to install, depending on the contained data, in the selected source. First, you can choose to copy the installation files from an optical disc or from an ISO virtual image. Creating a Windows installation drive is a simple step-by-step operation, which involves selecting a source and a destination. The user interface is compact and it displays a small number of options. Installing the application is a quick and simple process and there is no need to install any prerequisite tools. It asks for 256 MB of RAM or more, at least 10 MB of free disk space and a minimum resolution of 800圆00, which should not be a challenge for any modern day computer. It works on Windows XP and all later editions, up to Windows 8 and it provides support for both 32 and 64-bit platforms. WinToUSB is offered free of charge, but you can make a donation if you want to. The best part is that it takes only a few clicks to prepare the operation. As the name suggests, the application is capable of copying the Windows installation files from a disc or virtual image to a USB drive and it can also make the USB drive bootable. WinToUSB gives you the possibility of creating such a device, without any kind of difficulties. Fortunately, you can get past this limitation by installing the system from a bootable USB drive. Not sure how many here have used the extra features in Easy2Boot, but it works very well if you're at a level where you need multiple ISO's and UEFI secure boot options, and don't want a key ring full of individual ISO's on individual USB sticks.this is the way to go IMHO.The lack of an optical unit can prevent you from reinstalling a computer's operating system. Some won't and if you need full UEFI Secure Boot compatibility it's a few extra steps that take a minute to accomplish. It uses a Linux to boot to, and can just run ISO's as-is, many systems will even boot to it in UEFI w/o secure mode. Win 7-10, Server 2008R2-2016, Ubuntu + Ubuntu Server, CentOS, Kali, utilities such as Hiren's, UBCD, Gandalf, Medicat, Memtest86+, etc. I mix Microsoft and Linux OS ISO's on there. This does require a little more effort, but works extremely well and has been something I've relied on in the field for years. The ISO's need converted to imgPTN files (image within a contained partition), which is an easy process with the included utility. Then if I need one to be UEFI and UEFI Secure Boot compatible I select that image from a utility on the USB drive which masks the entire drive as that ISO. What I primarily use is Easy2Boot, so I can keep multiple ISO's on a USB flash drive and also have UEFI secure boot compatibility when I need it without losing any of the data on the drive or needing to redo it.
